Bookies Expect Another World Club Series Aussie Whitewash

Bookmakers make both Cronulla and Brisbane clear favourites to win their Dacia World Club Series games at Wigan and Warrington respectively this weekend.

Since the introduction of the World Series concept, no side from Super League has beaten one of their NRL counterparts, the closest being Wigan taking the Broncos to Golden Point extra-time in 2015, only to lose out to a Corey Parker penalty (made famous by Anthony Gelling attempting a charge-down ).

In fact only one English club, Leeds in 2012, has won the World Club Challenge this decade with the NRL sides winning the last four.

The Bookies make the Sharks 8-point favourites on the handicap for their clash at the DW Stadium on Sunday. The Warriors can be backed at around 2/1 to lift the famous trophy for a record fourth time with Cronulla as short as 1/2 to again take the trophy back to the other side of the world. It would be the Sharks first World Club crown.

In the other game bookies make Brisbane 12-point favourites on the handicap for their game at Warrington on Saturday night.

The Wolves can be backed at around 4/1 for a shock win. The Broncos beat Wigan 42 -12 last year. Warrington last played a World Club Series game in 2015 losing 18-12 to the St George Illawarra Dragons in a very hard fought battle.

Surely the concept couldn’t survive another heavy beating for the Super League sides, seeing us revert back to just the World Club Challenge itself.
