Bolton Mets move off the bottom

After going six weeks without a Home fixture we were back at Greenhalgh’s Pavilion on Saturday ready to host Blackbrook A for our third consecutive Home game.

However, the game never got going as the Away side struggled to raise a team and had to forfeit the game, something that came as quite a shock considering our league position and results over the course of the season.

We only had 10 players available ourselves on Friday morning, however, Chairman Stuart Cooke worked his magic and managed to get 17 players signed up to play later that evening. Several players were having to work overtime on Saturday morning but they were determined to get to the game and help the Mets field a strong team, which just epitomises the character within the squad.

With Leyland Warriors A also forfeiting their game the result meant Bolton Mets moved off the bottom of the table and into tenth place. With three games remaining we hope to get at least one more win under our belts to end the season in style. We’re Away to Blackpool Stanley next Saturday, a road trip the boys are looking forward to.

Once the season comes to an end it will be time to celebrate and dish out some trophies. We will be holding our End of Season Awards Evening at Bolton Market Lifestyle Hall on Saturday 23rd September, starting from 6.30pm. The food is being provided by Alain Job of Nkono, a Bolton Mets sponsor, whilst the drinks will be served from Great Ale…at the Market, owned by former Rugby League coach Steve Simms and his wife Anne.

The invitation is open to all past, present and future Mets players, club members, volunteers and supporters, as without these people the club wouldn’t be here.
