SARL Betting Picks – Catalans v Widnes + Salford v Wire

Super League Golden Point

There is an extra game live on Sky this weekend due to the deal to show all Catalans home games.

Widnes make the trip to the South of France and bookies have all but written off their chances of pulling off a win.

Jason Baitieri, Julian Bousquet and Sam Moa all miss out for the French side whilst Patrick Ah Van comes back in for the Vikings.

Catalans have had a decent start to the season beating two of last year’s top three and Super League sponsors Betfred make them 1/7 favourites to make it three from three.

The bookies though give Widnes an 18-point start on the handicap and they’ve managed to stay inside that on their last two regular season trips to Perpignan.

Denis Betts side put up a great fight against Champions Wigan last week, especially considering the farcical circumstances surrounding the game, and they will be smarting at losing by just two points.

The Dragons don’t have a winger of the quality of Joe Burgess to worry about today though. Whilst Catalans have a formidable record at home, they can be fallible early in the season and I think the Vikings can stay inside the three-score handicap.

Widnes are poor travellers and you can’t really fancy them to pull off a shock here even at decent 5/1 odds. They can though score enough points to keep it close and the value could be a home win by 1-12 points at around 9/4.

A Catalans win by around 6-10 points is about where I see this ending up. Plenty of alternative handicaps available at Betfred, it’s 5/2 for Widnes getting only 10 start and it’s 13/10 for the Dragons to win by 23 points or more.

Jodie Broughton and Vincent Duport head first try lists at 5 and 7/1 respectively. There may be bigger prices around for Broughton but if he scores two tries, Betfred will double your first tryscorer odds (this applies to all players, please check T&C’s).

You can see Broughton scoring a couple of tries against what can be a generous Vikings defence. Corey Thompson at 9/1 has to be the pick for the Vikings.

One other game sees Salford receive a 6-point start on the handicap for the visit of Warrington. Whilst the Wolves were superb in beating Brisbane a fortnight ago, they are yet to get off the mark in Super League.

This could be very tight, Salford were unlucky to lose at Leeds last week and could just stay inside the handicap. It took a late Chris Sandow drop goal to win this fixture last year and whilst Tony Smith’s side might just sneak home, they are very short at 4/9 given their form in Super League so far.

It’s 2/1 for a Red Devils win which you certainly can’t rule out, but it’s surely safer to take the extra insurance of a 2-point start. If pushed I would just fancy the Wolves to get home by around 1-5 points.

Super League is back on Thursday with a repeat of the Grand Final as Wigan travel up the A49 to Warrington.

As always please gamble responsibly.
