RFL uphold Barba’s suspension

Ben Barba ban

An independent tribunal has this evening upheld the decision to suspend St Helens marquee player Ben Barba for 12 matches.

Saints appealed against the drugs ban as they believed the Australian full-back was found guilty of the offence out of the Super League season which wouldn’t have resulted in a ban in England.

However the independent panel, led by Judge Peter Charlesworth, confirmed the suspension originally set by the NRL and subsequently recognised by the Rugby Football League, should remain.

Having signed for St Helens at the end of May, Barba has has already served five of the 12-game ban and will be available in round 4 of the Super 8s at end of August.
