Agent calls for 18k minimum wage for full time players

Rugby league agent Craig Harrison of Show Me The Money UK has called for a minimum wage of £18,000 for full time players.

In a series of tweets, Harrison explains that there are a number of young players on less than £12,000 a year and that there needs to be change.

He started with a tweet saying: “Ambition in RL for next year, bring minimum wage in. Should be 18k if fulltime. Some young players less than 12k fulltime! #rlmustchange”

“We can only get change with transparency, same right through game. Only then we can move forward! Older players with voice need to help!

“Some of their wages subsidised by colleges but not given on top, just used to reduce the amount put in! No blame on clubs, just system!

“Players need a voice and quick, with leaders who will not be scared of change and have the overall future of games in their minds!

“Independent body to investigate some of these young players wages thoroughly and who knows all the loop holes!! We got the leader?

“Ex player respected who all players will follow because they believe they will bring change. Cmon RL we need a leader!

“Again understand clubs are on limited budgets but that means as a game it needs to be looked at urgently.”
