Acton to learn his fate as Arona escapes ban

Leigh Centurions 30-0 Huddersfield Giants

Leigh forward Jamie Acton will face an independent operational rules tribunal tonight after he was charged for a Grade F offence two weeks ago.

The case has been pushed back twice on the Centruions’ request to give them extra time to prepare for the hearing, with the 25-year-old facing a minimum eight-match ban if found guilty.

Cited for ‘other contrary behaviour’ Acton is accused of grabbing the shirt of Catalans player Greg Bird, lifting him and then pushing him down as he lay injured on the floor.

The 25-year-old, whose case will be heard at 5.15pm, has been one of Leigh’s stand-out players this campaign and the outcome could prove to be important, with the Qualifiers fast approaching.

Elsewhere, Wakefield forward Tinirau Arona has escaped suspension for a Grade A kicking out charge after taking his Early Guilty Plea option.
