WATCH: A tribute to the Rugby League hero who won the Victoria Cross

Jack Harrison VC MC is a hero in absolutely every sense of the word, of that there can be no doubt whatsoever, a hero on the rugby pitch, in the classroom and on the battlefield.

A teacher who thrilled the crowds at the Boulevard by winning the Challenge Cup in 1914 and setting a club record of 52 tries in the 1914/15 season, a record that still stands now!

He then gave up his reserved occupation to fight in World War 1, he was awarded the Military Cross for outstanding gallantry on 25th February 1917 on the Western Front of the Battle of the Somme.

He then charged at a machine gun in Oppy Wood in Northern France to save hundreds of lives of his men and sacrificed himself in the process, for that bravery he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, becoming the first ever professional sportsman to be awarded the highest medal that can be given to a member of the British armed forces #Statue52 #2Legends1Man

Our Jack stars Clare Crowther as Charlotte, Kenny Richards-Preston as John, Jessica Palmer as Lilian Ellis and Jordan Matfin as Jack Harrison VC MC.

The video is recorded at Kardomah 94 in Hull City Centre, and will be shown again on Sunday afternoon at St. James’s Church Hall in Sutton Village. The play will raise money for the Jack Harrison VC MC statue fund, and it just also happens to be Jack’s birthday!
